Nico Hulkenberg was announced as one of the drivers for Sauber next season, leaving the future of Kamui Kobayashi in doubt, few regard it as end of his Formula 1 career.

“The car will be strong because the rules don’t change much, and the team have a good experienced driver in Nico (Hulkenberg) and he will have a strong teammate in Esteban (Gutierrez),” Perez was quoted saying by Reuters revealing information believed to be held back for quite some time.

The newspaper also revealed that talks with potential buyers from India and Abu Dhabi are underway.

“the time has come for the team to continue growing with new financial backing”.

Rumours suggest that the team were in the process of sacking more than 30 employees, and needed a buyer before the first days of December to survive.

HRT engineers are concerned that Pedro de la Rosa and Narain Karthikeyan are being put into races at the wheel of unsafe HRT cars.

Indeed, at the most recent grands prix in Abu Dhabi and India, Karthikeyan and de la Rosa respectively retired in spectacular style with fundamental technical failures.

Pedro De la Rosa crashed due to brake failure, while Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg was sent airborne when Karthikeyan slowed because his steering wheel “locked solid”.

“Narain told me that his steering broke,” said Rosberg, “and he needed to brake which I didn’t expect in a high speed corner.”

AS suggests that HRT has considered simply withdrawing from the 2012 championship, but is pushing ahead for now due to its commitment to the Concorde Agreement.

According to the report, HRT was hoping its association with Chinese reserve driver Ma Qinghua would bear fruit.

Chief executive Saul Ruiz de Marcos reportedly wrote a letter to China’s motor racing federation, saying Ma would make his F1 debut in 2013 if he could bring EUR 30 million in backing.

Rio de Janeiro to bid for Brazil’s F1 race says mayor

Rio de Janeiro mayor Eduardo Paes has confirmed his intentions to bid for a Formula One race at a new circuit in Brazil’s second largest city.

Rio hosted F1 for the first time in 1978 at the Jacarepaguá facility and again between 1981 and 1989 before Sao Paulo’s Interlagos took over.

Jacarepaguá is set to be demolished to make way for an Olympic Training Centre for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro games. A new circuit will be constructed in Deodoro and is expected to be completed by 2015 – the same year in which Sao Paulo’s contract expires.

Paes is keen to see the new circuit host F1 once it’s completed and he sent out a message to the present organisers during a press conference.

“Be prepared Sao Paulo because I am going to steal the Formula 1 from you,” he said.

However the 42-year-old added that he is keen for the country to host two races if possible and would seek discussions with Bernie Ecclestone before going ahead with plans to take the race from the country’s capital.

Mercedes designing ‘completely new’ 2013 car

Mercedes is working on a “completely new car” for the 2013 season, Niki Lauda has revealed.

Lauda, the F1 legend and triple world champion, is Mercedes’ brand new non-executive chairman — the main link between the Stuttgart carmaker and the Ross Brawn-led, UK-based team.

With this year’s W03, Nico Rosberg won in Shanghai and Michael Schumacher lapped the quickest in qualifying at Monaco, but otherwise the silver machine has often been a disappointment.

With the regulations staying essentially stable next year, ahead of the radical changes for 2014, most teams are working on evolutions of their current cars for next season.

But with Lewis Hamilton arriving from McLaren for 2013, simply evolving the W03 is not going to be Mercedes’ approach, Austrian Lauda suggested to the broadcaster RTL.

“We are working on a concept for a completely new car. The current one is simply not fast enough,” he said.

Bruno Senna suffered burns in Singapore GP

It has been revealed that Bruno Senna was burned inside his Williams during the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday. The Brazilian retired from tenth position in the closing stages of the race and the precise cause of the problem is still being investigated.

“It was an extremely frustrating weekend,” admits Mark Gillan, Williams’ Chief Operations Engineer. “It was what I would call a character-building weekend, with the high expectations following a front row qualification and fast race pace ultimately dashed due to a double DNF and a risked strategy call.”

Williams will soon confirm the precise problems for both cars, including that which left Senna with burns as he made his way back to the paddock on foot.

“We have a good idea but are still investigating just to make sure that we have covered all potential causes,” Gillan concluded.

With six races to go in 2012, Oxfordshire-based Williams remains eighth in the Constructors’ Championship but has now fallen to 21 points behind Force India.
