F1: My opinion on the Pirelli tires

So now i will talk a bit about the Spanish GP.

Well Alonso won his first Spanish GP since 2006 ahead of a disappointed Raikkönnen and teammate Massa.

Mercedes went backwards in the race-Rosberg was from Pole to P6, teammate Hamilton from P2 in Quali to P12 in the race.

Vettel was 4th, but he’s still leading the championship with only 3 points ahead of Raikkönnen.

But really the GP was the most boring race after a long long time and i will now tell you why (this is my personal opinion, of course some of you will disagree):

So my problem is that the tires are ruling the races in F1 WAY too much.

The drivers have to look more over their tires then on the most important thing- namely driving the car to the limit!!!

The tires from last year were still ok and some could still drive very fast, but now Pirelli overstated it.

I mean did anybody requested (aside of the FIA) that they should do new tires for the 2013 season?

No i don’t think so and you see the result of it.

So the drivers and teams are complaining about the tires and blaming Pirelli. But don’t blame Pirelli, they’re just doing their job.

You have to blame the FIA for that, they requestet for that back in 2011, when Bridgestone just left.

So how should be the tires for the future?

Well Pirelli announced to revise the tires for the British GP, so two GPs to go until that happens.

They have two options for the changes:

1. They use the tires from 2012, but they stay to the current composites

2. They stick to the current tires, but make the composites harder. (What do you think is better?)

Anyway i will want the 2nd option because i hope the tires are at least so hard like in 2011, were it wasn’t so crazy with the tires like nowadays.

Or better bring them to 2010 form (but i don’t think it will happen).

Because i think 2010 was the last F1 season with real racing, no DRS, no KERS, no tire zick zack whatever, just side by side racing and that’s it.

But it won’t happen sadly 😦

However the next GP- in Monaco will be a lot different than the last one. The track characteristics are a lot different and the surface is completely different. So it’s still going to be exciting.

UPDATE: The new tires come already to the Canadian GP with option 2 (2013 composites).

Pirelli’s tire lineup for 2013.

The Pirelli tire ”misunderstanding” from teams and drivers in 2012 should be away in 2013. The tires are similar to the last years ones, so teams and drivers now know how the tires work. Pirelli Motorsport Boss Paul Hembery said that after the Brazilian test the tires were not changed at all for 2013, because the Tire rules are still the same like last years ones. Pirelli will still have 4 compounds of slicks tires (Hard, Medium, Soft, Supersoft). The italian tire company didn’t thought about a 5th/extrem supersoft compound especially for street cicuits like Monaco, because it would make everything to difficult to understand for teams, drivers and fans. Hembery also said that Pirelli will go more agressive into the tire choice for the race weekend, they have been criticized for beeing to conservative in the tire choice in 2012.

Pirelli names Sutil, Kobayashi as 2013 F1 tester candidates

Paul Hembery has named  potential candidates to be  Pirelli’s test driver in 2013.

“Lucas does a great job for us. After next year his continuation depends on our decision to stay or not in 2013,” Hembery told Brazil’s Totalrace.

Jaime Alguersuari was the other Pirelli tester in 2012, but the former Toro Rosso racer is hoping to return to a race seat next season.

“In addition to Lucas, we are evaluating other names in the market like (Adrian) Sutil and Alguersuari.”

German Sutil, however, clearly has plans to race next year. After a season on the bench in 2012, the former Force India driver has updated his official website with the words ‘Next destination: Australia’.

What about Kamui Kobayashi? According to strong rumours, the Japanese could be replaced at Sauber by the Telmex-backed Esteban Gutierrez.

“It’s a possibility,” said Hembery. “We’ll see what happens with him (Kobayashi). I imagine he’s still trying to get a (race) seat, so we’ll wait.”

Hembery had even recently mentioned Michael Schumacher’s name as a possible Pirelli tester.

“I tried in Japan to convince him,” he smiled, “but it didn’t work. I think he wants to go skydiving or something!”
