MotoGP: Lorenzo wins San Marino GP

Jorge Lorenzo won the San Marino GP at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli ahead of the two HRC riders Marc Marquez and Dan Pedrosa. Marquez started from Pole, but had a bad start, so Lorenzo was going into the lead. Also Pedrosa passed Marquez for 2nd place. But Marquez soon got the position back, what led to the story of the race. Pedrosa made a surprise move on Marcquez, but the 20 years old rider got the spot back afterwards. It was an fantastic battle. Lorenzo meanwhile had a 4 seconds lead to the two Honda riders and held that lead until the end. Bradl was following Crutchlow for more than 20 laps, before he overtoke the brit in the last lap for 5th place. Rossi had a solid 4th.

In CRT, Espargero was having a incredible Qualifying with 6th on the grid. But he made a jump start and had to make a ride through penalty. He ended being 2nd in the CRT class and 13th overall behind Forward Racing rider Colin Edwards.

The next GP is at Aragon, Spain on the 29th of September

Signatech Alpine get’s first ELMS win at the Hungaroring

The Oreca 03 from Signatech Alpine won the 3h of the Hungaroring ahead of the Murphy Prototypes from Hartley/Hirschi. The LMP2 championship leaders TDS Racing were having a awful race, with many incidents ending up 6th in class. The Jota Sport Zytek from Dolan/Turvey were having a battle with Hartley/Hirschi for 2nd, but they had a puncture in the 2nd hour and had to pit. 30 minutes later they got passed by the Oreca 03 from Hartley/Hirschi, but due a late pitstop they lost 2nd position again. So Dolan/Turvey were 3rd. The Race Perfomance Oreca 03 retired after having two spins.

In LMPC, the #49 Team Endurance Challenge car won the category

The Porsche 911 GT3 RSR from Proton Competition won in GTE ahead of he RAM Racing Ferrari and the AF Corse Ferrari. The IMSA Matmut Perfomance was leading the LMGTE class in the first half an hour but they got a stop and go penalty for leavng the engine on during the pitstop. So the Proton Porsche was leading the race until the end.

SMP Racing Ferrari won in GTC, their 3rd win in a row. GTC championship leaders Ecurie Ecosse with their BMW Z4 GT3 were having a solid race until 20 minutes till the end were they had contact with #56 AF Corse Ferrar 458 LMGTE car. So they ended up being 5th in class.

F1: Massa out, Raikkönnen in for Ferrari

Kimi Raikkönnen will leave Lotus for Ferrari in 2014/15. It’s the second time that the finn will drive for Ferrari. He drove for them from 2007-2009. In these years he got 9 GP wins and 1 world championhsip in 2007. He then was replaced by Feranando Alonso in 2010, who’s also he’s new teammte for the next season. Yesterday evening Felipe Massa announced that he will leave Ferrari at the end of 2013, no news on his future plans yet.

Now it’s of course interesting to see who’s going to drive for Lotus, i hope it’s going to be Nico Hülkenberg, who showed great performances in the last couple of years in F1. But who will replace him at Sauber? Well most likley it’s going to be Sergey Sirotkin, who’s only 17 years old and for me not ready for an F1 full time cockpit.

I really can’t wait to see how the F1 2014 season is going to unfold, with Raikkönnen now in a team that has the money to produce a winning car.

F1: Ricciardo will replace Webber at Red Bull for 2014

On 21:19, evening time, Daniel Ricciardo was announced as 2nd driver for the Infiniti Red Bull F1 team for 2014 on the austrian TV channel Servus TV.

He will replace Mark Webber, who drove for Red Bull from 2007-2013.

Webber will compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2014, including the 24h of Le Mans, in a Porsche LMP1 car.

Red Bull said that they’re aiming a at least three year partnership with Ricciardo.

Ricciardo is in the Red Bull Junior programme since 2010.

He was test and reserve driver and also drove in the WSBR, finishing 2nd in the standings.

Then he was replacing Narain Kartikehyan at the 2nd hafl of the F1 2011 season in a HRT F111.

He then joined Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2012.

His teammate Jean Eric Vergne was always more consistend on points, but Ricciardo was the faster driver, especially on one Qualifying lap.

The decison from Red Bull to take Ricciardo was quite obvious.

I never took the Raikkönnen/Alonso romours seriously.

It would be stupid if they won’t have taken Ricciardo, because then the philosophy of the Toro Rosso team would be in question.

ALMS: Luhr/Graf win a chaotic Baltimore GP

It was one of the most chaotic ALMS races i’ve ever experienced.
It wasn’t even a endurance race, it was more a crashfest.

Everything began at the start, were the Dyson Lola from Chris Dsyon jumped the start.

Klaus Graf bracked to signal a wave off for a restart. Tucker, who was behind Graf didn’t see that one coming and was hard on the brakes. Lazarro couldn’t do anything and touched Tucker at the rear.

Tucker spun and was in the middle of the track, in opposite direction.
The Falken Tire Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 RSR from Wolf Henzler made an big frontal impact with the #551 Level 5 HPD from Tucker in 4th gear.

Then it became full chaos and suddenly 8 cars were involved in the crash, including the Paul Miller Racing and Core Autosport Porsche 911 GT cars, one Risi Ferrari 458, #93 SRT Viper and a LMPC car.

The GTC field had luck that they weren’t involved. Also the GT front runners, especially the RLL BMW’s were pretty lucky to escape from that one.

After half an hour of cleaning up all that mess, restart was attended from the drivers.

And again the Dsyon car jumped the start, so let’s try again folks! Eventually, a clean restart was made and everybody was coming unscafed through Turn 1, but Green flag only lasted for 3 turns.

The #2 ESM HPD from Lazarro spun the RSR PC car into the tire wall at Turn 4, another full cause caution.

So we already lost an hour of the race and not a single lap was made, pathetic isn’t it? Finally we hade our 4th restart of the day and everything went fine now.

Another full cause yellow, the rear bumper from Maxime Martin was in the middle of the cricuit. Then the 5th restart was made and there only 25 minutes to go.

After the restart, the #552 Level 5 HPD entry from Guy Cosmo made a driver change with Marino Franchitti.

Franchitti was on cold tires, slid off and ran into a tire bundle at chicane on the start/finish straight.
So the BMW Z4 from Dirk Müller had to brake hard as he saw the crashing Level 5 LMP2 machine and got overtaken by the two Corvettes.
Magnussen/Garcia won for the first time the Baltimore GP in the GT class.

But there was also action in the LMP1 class, as Guy Smith in the Dsyon Lola suddenly overtook Lucas Luhr for the lead. Luhr had some sort of a problem, but got the 1st position back, 3 minutes until the end.

The chicane is an issue that needs to be under investigation for the next years event.
It doens’t make it safer to drive on these railways, it makes it even more dangerous.

The next race of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron will be at the 21st to 22nd September at the Circuit of the Americas, making a Super Enduance Weekend with the FIA World Endurance Championship.
