LMP1: Luhr/Graf with a perfect race
Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr won the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park GP 6 laps ahead of the Dyson Racing Lola Mazda from Tony Burgess and Chris McMurry, who were driving this car for the first time under race conditions.
The Delta Wing however from Andy Meyrick and Katherine Legge was on a surprising P2 on the starting grid.
The car was staying there in the first half an hour of the race but then electrical problems stopped the experimantel car and they had to retire.
So Luhr/Graf were having a perfect race, with no competition at all.
LMP2, LMPC: Cracking battles in both classes
In LMP2, the two Level 5 HPD’s battled with the ESM HPD from Cosmo/Sharp for the first three postions through the whole race.
Cosmo and Conway were battling 45 minutes long for the lead until their first pitstop.
After the driver changes were done by ESM and Level 5, Franchitti passed his teammate Tucker at the end of the race.
Sharp also passed Tucker for 2nd and then closed the gap to Franchitti to 2 seconds at the last lap.
Franchitti/Tucker won in LMP2 and they’re leading the championship standings.
In LMPC, it looked like a win from RSR Racing until they made their last pitstop, were they had problems with the starter and had to retire.
So Colin Braun and CORE Autosport won in PC.
Van der Zande and Marcelli were battling for 2nd until the last lap, Van der Zande was 2nd then, Marcelli 3rd.
GT,GTC: Vette vs. Viper, Top 3 battle in GTC
The SRT Viper from Wittmer/Bomarito was on a fantastic pole and lead the race in GT, but then they became a penalty for speeding in the pitlane and finished 3rd.
The teammates however Farnbacher/Gossens were hunting down the #3 Corvette from Gavin/Milner for the win of the race.
Farnbacher then had a cracking battle with Milner in the last 20 minutes and it nearly became a photo finish.
Milner won the first race for Corvette in the 2013 ALMS season since the Sebring 12h.
SRT Motorsports got a 2nd and 3rd, what is the best result for the Viper since it’s return in GT compettion at Mid-Ohio last year.
In GTC, Pumpelly was chasing Edwards for 2nd in class.
Then Edwards got spun by the Falken Tire Porsche 911 GT from Bryan Sellers, who got a 30 seconds stop & go penalty for that.
Pumpelly then got 2nd and tried to overtake the leading AJR Porsche from Bleekemolen at the last lap, but Bleekemolen hold on and won in GTC.
The next round of the American Le Mans Series is on the 11th of August at Road America.
Treyuler/Fässler/Jarvis won the 61st Sebring 12 hour. It was the first win of an Hybrid car in ALMS history.
The 2nd car McNish/Di Grassi/Kristensen were only 7.679 seconds behind the winners of the race.
The Audi drivers had a real lead battle through the 12 hours. Jarvis made contact with McNish in hour 5 for the lead.
Also Di Grassi and Treyuler were battling for the lead later. McNish/Di Grassi/Kristensen had a real chance for the win.
But McNish made contact with a LMPC car and got a Stop&Go Penalty for avoidable contact, so they lost time there.
Rebillion Lola winning they first ALMS race in 2013
Jani/Heidfeld/Prost were driving on the podium and won in the ALMS classification ahead of HPD-Pikket with Graf/Luhr/Dumas.
The Pikket trio had two Stop&Go Penalties.
One of the penalties happend were Klaus Graf was trying to close the gap between him and the Rebellion Trio, than he made contact with the leading LMPC car and damaged his HPD.
5th was the 2nd Rebellion with Beche/C.Cheng/Belecchi.
The Dyson-Mazda retired after an electrionic failure and the revolutionary Delta Wing retired after some few laps due a burning engine failure what was very disappointing.
Level 5 with dominant LMP2 win
Tucker/Franchitti/Briscoe made a double win with Hunter-Reay/Pagenaud/Tucker ahead of the Zytek-Nissan from Greaves with Kimber-Smith/Lux/Zugel.
The two ESM Racing HPD cars had some mechanical issues so both of the cars rerired. But considering the small field in LMP2, there was some action going on there.
Scott Sharp from ESM and Pagenaud from Level 5 made contact into Turn 1 after the first restart
Ed Brown in the 2nd ESM HPD spun his car three times overall because of the lack of grip.
I think the ESM guys aren’t used to this car, because they actually drive the Ferrari 458 Italia in GT and this is a completley different car to drive.
PR1 Motorsports won in the LMPC class.
Again dramatic battle in GT
After a three way lead battle between Ferrari, BMW and SRT, Corvette won the Sebring 12h with Gavin/Milner/Westbrook.
In the last 13 minutes the Risi Competizone Ferrari 458 Italia was leading the race, but a mistake from Malucelli dropped them back to 2nd position ahead of the Falken-Tire Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.
The brand new BMW Z4 GTE made a solid debut with 4th position in class, but the car is lacking topspeed.
The revised SRT-Viper GTS-R was with german driver Dominik Farnbacher in the lead for a short while, but their teammates were ending the race in 5th positon.
Aston Martin couldn’t challenge for the win and were very slow, they have to work on their V12 Vantage if they want to be competitive in the WEC, ALMS and Le Mans.
Alex Job Racing, switching from Lotus to Ferrari had an huge crash in hour 8 in the fast right hander Turn 13.
But driver Kendall was ok.
In GTC Bleekemolen/MacNeil/von Moltke (AJR) won in their class.
